  • I have a damascas barreled E. Schmidt & Habermann side by side hammer shotgun made in the mid-1800s.. I was wondering if the Winchester Super X 12 gauge black powder shells Buds sells would be safe to fire in this shotgun.

  • During the time period your gun was made there were no standards of which steel was manufactured and the quality of steel used in firearms ranged from amazing to dismal. I personally would value this an heirloom and not fire it, however a competent gun smith will, or should, be able to tell you whether or not it can be fired. Remember, this will be his or her opinion.

  • That is above my pay grade. I would take it to a gunsmith, let him check it out, and show him a screenshot of the shells. He or she is a professional and will give you the best advise.
