James, sorry but these won't fit either without modification's. The Taurus 856 is similar to a j frame but j frame grips will not fit. You need to get grips specifically made for the Taurus 856, or taurus 85 grips are also compatible. I'd recommend googling Taurus 856 grips. eBay has some nice rosewood grips that will fit and so does altamontco.com. Sorry but hope this helps.
