Hi Jessie, even though the pistol is new, field strip it and the magazine. Clean and lube the pistol and make sure the follower and spring move freely and don't bind on the magazine(also try a 2nd magazine and different ammo if available). This will rule out a possible bad batch of ammo. Once complete, test fire again and see if the results are better. Try giving it a good cleaning then run CCI mini mags for a while if it still gives you problems I would contact Ruger and they will take care of the problem for you

This is not uncommon.Try several different types of ammo until you find a brand it likes. If you cannot send it back to Ruger.
