Hi Stephen, the Barrel Twist is the length of rifling that a bullet will make one full revolution. Example, a 5.56 bullet will make one full revolution in 8 inches in a 1 in 8 twist rate - 7 inches in a 1 in 7 twist rate and so forth. A bullet will make two full revolutions in a 16 inch barrel with a 1 in 8 twist rate. Cheers and stay safe!
Are you asking about a specific firearm. Or just asking in general?
A “barrel twist rate” is referring to the rate of spin in the rifle barrel, indicated as inches per turn. For example, a 1:10″ twist rate means that the rifling will spin the bullet one revolution in ten inches. The lower the number, the faster the twist rate of the barrel.

Stephen, twist rate is the rate of spin inside your rifle barrel. For instance, a twist rate of 1:8, which is common in AR-15 rifles, means that the rifle will spin the bullet once over every 8-inches of rifling. If that rate isn’t fast enough, your bullet may not travel with much stability. This can lead to tumbling and inaccuracy down range. If you are asking about the twist rate of a specific firearm, please re-post with item name & model number.
