  • Can someone tell me exactly what is changed on a Springfield M1A loaded model rifle (compared to a regular one) to make it a CA model? I don’t live in CA however I am considering buying one but I want to know what I may be giving up by purchasing a CA model.

  • Troy, the CA model has a specially designed California-compliant muzzle brake allows the M1A Standard Issue rifle to be sold in that state, instead of a flash suppressor. Other than that, they are the same.

  • Hi Troy, the CA version uses an externally attached Muzzle Brake that does not require a Threaded Barrel making it CA legal. You are giving up a Treaded Barrel. Example of the CA legal Muzzle Brake is here : gunbuyer.com/spr-muzzle-brake-m1a-kit-california-legal-spr-ma5050-c.html

  • Troy, the only difference is the California compliant model has a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider/suppressor because flash suppressors are restricted in California. Other than that they're identical. So if you don't mind the muzzle brake instead of the flash hider I'd get the California compliant model and save a few bucks. Personally I'd prefer the muzzle brake over the flash hider anyways. Hope this helps.
