What do I do if the FFL that I am using is not home when FedEx is attempting to deliver? He has a regular 9-5 job and I keep getting the delivery notifications saying that he is not home.

Gary, this will have to be signed for by your FFL guy. I would contact him and have him to call and arrange a redeliver day/time with the shipping service that he will be available to receive your firearm.
