  • John, Receivers aren't registered, and the 4473 is just a transfer record. Receivers are also always transferred as "other" or "receiver" . This will be done by your FFL.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • John, you will perform the background check and transfer at the FFL dealers. If you mean is it considered a pistol or rifle it's neither until you transfer it into your name it's just considered a receiver/other. My local FFL dealer just assigns it as a pistol because you can always make a pistol into a rifle but you can't make a rifle into a pistol. So if they register it as a rifle and down the road you decide to add a pistol upper you can't without registering it as a sbr with the ATF and paying a $200 tax stamp. Now registered as a pistol you can add a rifle upper if you choose to. Hope this helps.

  • Hi John and welcome to the Buds Community. It is treated as a firearm since it is Serialized. It will ship to and be transferred to your locally selected FFL Dealer. Form 4473 and background check applies unless you have a Concealed Carry Permit which would allow you to forego the background check. Cheers and stay safe!
