  • Another gun I thought about for home defense was 38 special revolver ,41 magnum or a 20 gauge shotgun and thoughts on any of these calibers

  • you can shoot .357 and 38 special ONLY if it is a .357 chambered gun

  • The 30 Special would be sufficient (I would get the .357 version) and load with 38special. The 41 Magnum is definitely a bit much in recoil and muzzle blast (I.E. ringing ears if inside). The 20ga is great for home defense with #4 Buck Shot load. The business end will be further from your ears and will possible end a threat with just one shot. 38/357 and 20ga are just about a tie but I would give the nod to the 20ga.

  • Do you want to kill someone or just hurt them?

  • 38 special gets my vote. Remember you can shoot both 38 and 357.

  • all of the above can and will be a good home defense option I would recommend the .38 special/.357 and the 20 ga over the .41 mag (unless you are a reloader) due to the wider selection of loads available in them
