There is often confusion with new gun laws. Illinois HB5471 (aka Public Act 102-1116 or PICA) does not prohibit 8 round magazines on pump shotguns. Sec. 24-1.9. does prohibit magazines of more than 5 rounds for semi-automatic shotguns. Paragraph (2) (C) specifically exempts firearms manually operated by a pump and slide action. Furthermore, Sec. 24-1.10 (a) (1) does prohibit magazines of more than 10 rounds for shotguns. The 590 9-shot is still legal in Illinois for pump shotguns.
