  • I'm a glock guy but the 3 inch 1911 are really appealing to me. I'm looking at a colt defender because it is all steel. My question is does the aluminum framed 1911 wear fast? Are there any negatives to the aluminum frames? Also what other steel frame 3" 1911s are there? Thank you all.

  • The aluminum frames are just fine. An additional maker of 3" 1911s is Springfield Armory. They are a great company with excellent warranty and customer service.

  • No the aluminum frame 1911's do not wear fast they are well built and work great. There are really no negatives to the aluminum but then again it is all in personal preference and opinion. as far as The major difference is steel and aluminum frames the main difference is weight. The aluminum frames are made light for conceal carry. Colt would be your best bet, but as for other brands I would check kimber, ruger, and desert eagle as well. Hope this helps.
