V prefix =1978-1983

this is one of my pet peeves with remington the date is on the barrel however many remingtons (mine) have had barrels changed over the years the prefix in the S/N my help you some Remington 870 Serial Number Prefix Codes

"W" Prefix

"X" Prefix

"D" Prefix
