Hi Cody and welcome. The best is the 12ga. It is the most common, easiest to find many loads for from managed recoil, through heavy buck shot/slug loads. It covers every aspect of shot gunning and has for decades. It's all about load selection. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!
most versatile 12 ga or 20 ga. least expensive to shoot again 12 or 20 most fun to shoot IMO 28 ga which is also a great youth shotgun its drawback is the ammo cost and a 410 is best left to experts for hunting
The most common are 12,20,4-10. Myself I have 12 and 4-10. I grew up rabbit hunting with a 4-10. A 12 gauge will give you by far further reach and better knock down but that comes with more recoil also. A 20 gauge sits in the middle.
It really depends in what you are going to use it for, I prefer a 20g well rounded good for small game also have taken plenty of ducks geese turkey and many deer with it, also good for home defense

The "Best" all comes down to personal opinion & what the intended use will be. I personally own a 20g & 12g and love backyard shooting with my 20g. Now the 12g has its own job but it's not what I'd pump 100 practice rounds out of. Home Defense, 12g & 20g are just fine! .410 can be fun but shells are expensive compared to 12g & 20g. Again, all comes down to preference & intended use.
